Thyroid Dysfunction Among Patients with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus in Saudi Arabia

Abstract Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disease that may be associated with other disorders. To date, limited data are available on thyroid dysfunction and SLE in Saudi Arabia. In this retrospective study, we reviewed the cases of 151 patients SLE. The prevalence was 17.2%: 4% hyperthyroid group 11.9% hypothyroid group. Euthyroid sick syndrome found 1.3% patients. Moreover, 57% hypothyroidism were positive for antibodies to thyroglobulin peroxidase. No correlation between presence higher activity, according Safety Estrogens Lupus National Assessment–Systemic Erythematosus Disease Activity Index (SELENA-SLEDAI) score.
